And it's a WRAP!  I believe we had our best-ever EAA Young Eagles event last Saturday with EVERY young person who showed up getting a flight - with 74 kids total!!!  It couldn't have happened without all of the pilots who volunteered, with equal thanks to the pilot's assistants, registration staff, and ALEXANDER'S RESTAURANT for once again serving a very delicious lunch to everyone.  Kids had lots to do while they waited including building their own hand glider specially designed by Hakon Heggland (an aircraft designer to-be who might not know it yet), speak with the Sturgeon Bay Civil Air Patrol cadets, find out about what it takes to get your license from Perry Air and our sponsorship students, get a hands (and feet) on tour of a fire truck, rescue vehicle or police car, and have a personal tour of a homebuilt or ultralight aircraft on display.  There were also a couple of truly beautiful restored aircraft on display courtesy of Andy Cashetta.  The rain showed up at 1:30 so we didn't make it all the way to 2:00 PM, but as I said, no kids were left on the ground!

I also want to thank those who kicked off our Youth Program Fund Drive.  So far, we have received  over $9,000 in donations that will support local kids having the opportunity to get their pilot's license and go on to obtain a degree in an aviation-related field.  ON that very point, the Scholarship Committee just approved a scholarship to Dexter Daubner of Fish Creek who is enrolled in Fox Valley Technical College for the Aircraft and Powerplant Mechanics program for this Fall.  The Sponsorship and Scholarship programs offered by the Friends is one of the most direct ways I can think of to offer kids a chance to realize their dreams to be part of the aviation community.  Please consider any and all donations to help us continue to offer this support.
